“Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.’” – Matthew 14:19
For children ages 3 and under, we provide child-care during our entire Sunday morning gathering, giving you as parents the freedom to worship with them by your side or with them in our children’s area throughout the morning. We have a caring and committed nursery staff under the supervision of Lori Macdonald, the Director of Children’s Ministries. Please feel free to contact her with questions at email@example.com.
We warmly welcome children age 4 through grade 5 to a Godly Play class for a portion of the 10 am worship service. Children begin the service in the “big” church with the adults, are dismissed with a blessing for Godly Play, and then return to be with their families for communion.
What is Godly Play?
More than a curriculum, Godly Play is an approach to children’s spirituality. It recognizes that children learn best when they are deeply engrossed and creatively involved in their learning. Godly Play uses engaging story materials, a careful telling of stories from scripture and the liturgical tradition, a time for wondering about and reflecting on these stories, and an open art response time to help children experience and know God, and to become deeply rooted as Christians.
Lori Macdonald, the Director of Children’s Ministries, is a certified Godly Play instructor, and welcomes your questions about Godly Play or any other aspect of children’s ministries at Good Shepherd. Please contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
